It seems that half the group lost an average of two pounds and lowered their blood pressure somewhere in the region of 10 percent, while the other half had no noticeable changes. If the successful half had been put on a new diet, the world right now would have bought millions of copies of it and every talk show would be discussing how good it is. If you're wondering what caused half of the hotel cleaners to lose weight, you may be in for a bit of shock. The only difference between the two groups was that the successful group had been coached to believe that the jobs they were doing burned calories, made them healthier and helped them lose weight. In other words the weight loss group were taught to believe what they were already doing anyway was going to have health benefits and the health benefits appeared, without any extra effort on their part. The chief researcher, Ellen Langer, claimed 'The changes were a function of the change in mindset alone'. She goes on to say 'If you can put the mind in a healthy place, you can have dramatic physiological consequences'. In other words you can lose weight, or improve your general health just by thinking about it the right way. That's an amazing statement and has implications for everyone who would like to enjoy vibrant good health. If you imagine yourself losing weight and burning up calories during normal daily activity, you will lose weight and bodyfat. That simple. No dieting, no extra exercising, no pills, no shakes, no meal replacements. It almost sounds too good to be true, but the researchers at Harvard have now proven that it's not. Olfactive Families � A Rose By Any Other Name

As you can imagine some of these creations were not very well received but over time a primary group of scents has emerged as being the most popular. Be Your Own Way, but Still Use the Safe Tools

By Tony C. Gevano It is so often that people are not aware with the tools they use when doing their home improvement. Sometimes they use wrong tools just because they want something quick to be done. Well, you must change that attitude. You have to understand that by using the correct tool it can avoid you from hurting and damaging the project you are trying to repair. Well, it sure does. Dont think you know everything about tools before you really search for tools information. Lets start by some small items which mostly used to repair your broken equipment, for example, screwdriver. Using the right size and head of screwdriver is very important. Do you know why? Thats because if you are using the correct one, then the screw will be easier to remove, and secondly, because if you use the incorrect one, then you can strip the screw which will make it impossible to remove. There are other tools which also have to use correctly. They are scraper, putty knife, or spreader. All should have should have different functions, right? But, admitted that you are using the putty knife for all three, havent you? Hmmyou have to understand that scrapers have a thin, flat surface to enable it to get under the area that you want scraped off. Putty knives are a little more flexible and they are used for the application of wood and wall putty. Spreaders are used to spread mortar, grout, and other applications. So, above example is only part of it. There are more other equipments which you must understand how to use it. Use the right tool for your job to make it quicker and easier on yourself! Its better for being safe, then to hurt yourself. Beside that, being safe is very important in doing home improvement. Take care of your working waste such as wood shavings, sawdust, errant nails, and other debris which might ruin your project. More worst if those waste fly you to the emergency room in hospital. Sure you dont want that to happen, do you? Another stuffs which also dangerous is the flying object when you sanding, nailing, sawing, and just about anything else. You need safety glasses when working. If there is any chance of debris coming at you, then you need to put on your safety glasses. You only get one set of eyes, so protect them. Easy Layer Gardening - Gardening Without Digging!

By Pearl Sanborn Digging is definitely not one of my favorite garden chores, but until now it had to be done! Layer gardening is a garden building system that calls for no digging, no tilling, no weeding, hardly any tending - no kidding! You simply layer organic matter & plant your plants! 1. One of the great advantages of this style of gardening is, you can have your garden where ever you'd like, even if there is no soil in that spot! Because we are building the soil up & not digging down into it, good soil is not an issue! You could even have your new garden on top of a bed of stone, or an old driveway if you so choose! 2. Lay down a layer of moist newspaper or cardboard. These can be found at the recycle center, behind department stores, or at curbside - all free of charge! Not only does this help to keep weeds down, but the material also helps provide organic matter as it decomposes. 3. The next step is to layer different kinds of organic materials. There is no set rule for what type of material you "have" to use - it can be almost anything you can find: * Animal manure - Any farmer will be more than happy to let you cart off bunches of this black gold - free! * Compost - You most likely have a pile of compost in your yard already. This is the spot you throw your kitchen scraps, leaves, sod, etc. * Grass clippings - Almost all summer we will soon be overrun with clippings! * Hay - When horse farmers (or any farmer for that matter) clean out the stalls, you could take this "enriched" hay to use in your garden - free. * Leaves - again, these can be had for the taking all around town during the leaf dropping season. You can also check with your local public works dept. They will usually have lots of clippings you can take free of charge. * Peat Moss - One of the cheapest items in the garden center. * Sawdust - A local sawmill will have a bountiful supply, probably free for the asking. (never use pressure treated wood or sawdust in your food garden) * Seaweed - If you live near water, gather the unsightly seaweed to feed your garden! * Wood Ashes - Do you or a friend have a fireplace/woodstove? If so, there is probably a mound of ashes somewhere in the yard, that would welcome removal! Layer the items as you get them, then moisten the pile. It is best to let this pile "rest" for a few weeks, turning it if you can, to keep your plant's roots from getting "burned" by direct contact with some of the items such as ashes from your woodstove. After a few weeks, the only thing left to do is plant your plants! To plant, simply pull back the contents to make small holes in the top of your garden & insert the plant. Then, push everything back around the rootball. If you would like to plant seeds directly into this garden, scatter some sifted soil in the area that you'd like to plant - then sow the seeds. Throughout the season, you can continue to build up this layer garden by adding more ingredients as you come by them. It's also a great idea to start more garden beds for next year! 7 Coaching Predictions and What To Do About Them

By Andrea Lee To prepare for our segments, Milana asked us to reveal in no-holds barred fashion, a mindstream of the 3 most important trends, opportunities and landmines we could foresee for professional coaches in 2007, including how each is likely to impact a coach's business (that's you!), and what I'm doing about the predictions myself. Here are the promised notes from the predictions I made, for those who missed the call or prefer reading over listening... Coaching Prediction #1: Expect to see lots more coaching jobs. By that I dont mean jobs that involve coaching skills, but jobs where coaching is the core deliverable. This will happen at three levels: (1) the Executive level - this is already happening and there will be many more of these. (2) the non-Executive level - these coaching jobs are becoming part of the woodwork in fitness and wellness industries, in the academic world, etc. (3) AND coaches who are reaching a certain degree of success are now hiring associate coaches themselves, creating a demand for coaches with the skill set and experience set who don't want to build businesses. How to prepare for this trend? - Collect testimonials of the hard-core type
- Use before and after progress worksheets
- Be prepared to provide examples of your coaching abilities in a resume Tip: As a natural benefit to your 1-1 or group coaching clients, you can already be offering to record their sessions, confidentially for their use, of course. It's a great value add and costs you little if you use an easy recording service like this. When the time comes you then also have the option of approaching them for permission to use audio clips you record for the purpose of your coaching portfolio. This bolsters your application immeasurably as you are helping prospective employers understand how to recognize great coaching. It's early yet in the days of coaching jobs, and people aren't altogether clear how to hire the best coaches. This is great news: you can help them hire you. What I personally hope to do in light of the increasing number of coaching jobs is help build connections between those who want the jobs and those who are in a position to hire. I've already spent several years developing my business as a place that helps with business management and infrastructure so as to facilitate coaches hiring other coaches. Love that. Coaching Prediction #2: Watch for a great deal more coaching in the mainstream media. There will continue to be coaching in reality television, as a part of the bigger premise of the show. But youll see in 2007 a couple of shows where coaching is the focus. Many of us have hoped that this would happen in a way that can showcase the real power of coaching well, isn't it awesome that its now coming? As I explain on the audio clip from the Coaching Predictions call - I cheat a little with the word 'predictions' here because some of these things I know to be a forgone conclusion. Plus, I think you'll agree that we create our own future so if I have anything to do with the predictions, let's just say I like to think they'll be a little more than predictions when the year is through. ;-) So, how to prepare for this one? It may sound silly, but stay flexible. Be prepared to nimbly take advantage of this trend in your marketing collateral. Now may not be the time to print 1000 business cards. Hedge your bets and be ready to take advantage of trends, language and ideas as they sweep through. What I hope to do is support the coaches who are even now preparing for big launches in radio, video games and yes, TV, as well as help coaches who want to make the most of the halo effect of all this. Coaching Prediction #3: I also predict an increase in mainstream criticism of coaching and the self help industry as a whole. Some of you who are following along know this has begun already in the form of recently-published books painting self-help as a whole with a very dark shade of black. And of course, there is the backlash to the very successful movie 'The Secret.' So how can you prepare for this? Isn't it hard enough to market your coaching business? More details to this worthy question in another post, but in general terms, my best suggestion is that each of us embrace the criticism as an opportunity. Dont run from the criticism, take it as a vitamin and let it strengthen you. Because here's the thing, when I take a close look at some of what's being said - there is real truth to it. And hearing that truth at a deep level can only make us better at what we do, and how we talk about it. And although Milana only asked us for three, here are four more quickie predictions I slipped in. Note: Because I had to leave the call early, I wasn't able to cover each in detail on the record so the notes will be where you get the most detail. Coaching Prediction #4: We will see a handful or so coaches emerging as leaders in definitive (and perhaps unexpected) new niche markets. Again, I say this more from a factual standpoint than a crystal-ball or tea-leaf standpoint. There may be more than a handful but I can stand by at least a handful at this moment. Hint: This means more coaches hiring coaches as the new niche market embraces coaching results and demand increases. Coaching Prediction #5: There will be a steady increase in the number of mergers and acquisitions taking place. That is, the buying and selling of successful coaching businesses by people in and outside the industry. Whether it's because veteran coaches are moving out of the market going onto other things, selling, thinking about their legacy as a coach or just simply planning exit strategies...or.... just the fact that the coaching landscape is coalescing and consolidating ...this is also already happening. Unfortunately, this type of meta-activity also means it becomes much more important to have your grown-up business 'ducks in a row'. As business goals of varying coaching organizations overlap and sometimes even clash, there will be lawsuits and other 'vigorous' negotiations. Yes even among coaches. How can you prepare? Think bigger about how to reach your goals. If one of your goals is to build a list of 10,000, how can you leapfrog the organic process of doing that? Ask, whos getting out of the biz? Whos going on sabbatical? How can you step in, acquire or buy a business asset? Also, be prepared to invest in infrastructure accountants, lawyers, business managers etc. As for myself, there are a couple of businesses Im looking at acquiring and/or merging with now and thats something I haven't done before in the coaching industry, for myself, only for clients. So this will be an exciting time of growth - one that I aim to navigate without adding too more hours in front of the computer. Fun. Coaching Prediction #6: We will see increased numbers of companion coaching programs where coaches create programs based on existing best selling material. For example Coach Carol Ross' work based on Dan Pink's book 'A Whole New Mind' called "Leading with a Whole New Mind." If you're curious about this, I've posted my online interview with Carol in a separate post here. Coaching Prediction #7: We will see significant bodies of proof come to light that coaches are earning great livings. Ah, perhaps my favorite prediction. By this I mean Real Proof - no more 'Survey says we all stink.' (Can I just say I can't wait???) As an adjuct to this, as more coaches begin earning well, the pendulum will begin swinging back towards the 'meaning' side of the Money--Meaning spectrum. We'll start hearing more conversation about the social value of our businesses. How can we best give back? How do we manage our legacies or build charitable organizations that reflect our values? How can we infuse our business successes with greater meaning? We'll see more innovative creations along the social venture line, for example the book 'The BIG MOO' by Seth Godin where 100% of author royalties went to charity. ----end predictions---- Needless to say, it's truly the most wonderful of times, isn't it? Skills Make Labor More Valuable

By Jim Rohn As you know by now, if you have been a long time subscriber to our weekly E-zine, I'm a very big proponent of activity, labor and discipline. In fact I devoted one of the five major pieces to the life puzzle (in my book under the same name) to the subject of activity and labor. But now let me add another key word to the labor equation - skillful. Yes, skillful labor. We need the skills to help build our family's dreams, the skills to stir up an enterprise and make it successful. We need skills to build equities for the future. We need skills of all kinds. How about this - skillful language. If you just talk to your family you can hold them all together, but if you skillfully talk to your children you can help them build dreams for the future. That is why I spend so much time at the Weekend Seminar on communication - how to affect others with words. You can't be lazy in language - it costs too much. What if you meant to say "what's troubling you?" and instead you said "what's wrong with you?". Wow, that's too big a mistake. And sure you could have made that mistake 10 years ago, but not now. You should have gotten much better by now in language and communication. Skills multiply labors by two, by five, by ten, by fifty, by one hundred times. Hey, you can chop a tree down with a hammer but it takes about 30 days, called labor. But if you trade the hammer in for an ax, you can chop the tree down in about 30 minutes. What's the difference in 30 days and 30 minutes? Skills. Skills made the difference. So do what you can - labor. But also do the best that you can do improved skills. Ancient Bible References to Date Palm Trees, Phoenix dactylifera

By Patrick Malcolm Palm trees in ancient desert sands grew and satisfied almost every need the ancient Jews needed. The Jews ate the palm tree dates; the tree juices were fermented into wine; the trunk of the palm tree was used as construction timber; and the palm leaves were woven into baskets, mats, brooms, beds, ropes and made into furniture. Promises were made in the Hebrew Bible by God for a new home for the nation of Israel , and the moving finger on the wall pointed to the palm tree as the perfect supplier of food, shelter and medicine. This was the promised land of milk and honey, (palm dates.) the land of Canaan located on the banks of the Jordan River. Ezekiel 47-12: All kinds of fruit trees will grow along the river banks, the leaves will never turn brown and fall, and there will always be fruit. There will be a new crop every month- without fail! For they are watered by the river flowing from the Temple. The fruit will be for food and the leaves for medicine. Date palm trees grow tall point toward the infinite heavens where there is a promise of Life Eternal. The symbolism of the straight trunk of the palm tree is clear; that humans should journey down the straight path that leads Christians toward righteousness. The straight soft trunk was capped with a canopy of 20 foot leaves of green that unfolded like a botanical star burst. The delicious honey-sweet dates fed the ancient Jewish nomads and the eventual settlers of Israel. The palm leaves shaded the hot, bright desert sands and the fibers provided a plethora of uses in the primitive lands. The ancient date palm tree, it has been suggested, is the oldest fruit bearing tree on earth. Palm trees grow worldwide from sandy deserts to tropical rain forests. The palm trees has been grown in grove plantings, since the ancients understood the food value of the dates and the exotic appearance and shading on the landscape of the desert sands. Palm trees were often planted near an oasis as a source of water, shade and food. Historically the tropical appearance of palm trees was noted in ancient documents, and on stone inscriptions uncovered by archaeological excavations and from multiple references in the Bible Scriptures. Ancient civilizations revered palm trees as symbols of fertility, peace, and victory. Palm tree images were struck and minted on ageless coins of the Greeks and Romans. The trees were an economic resource for the exporting of high quality, edible dates into areas outside the Middle East and Africa. In the Scriptures of the Hebrew Bible, Joshua 6-20, the brother of Moses, Joshua, stood at the miraculous crumbled walls at the city of Jericho, the City of Palms, that was situated in the land of the Canaanites, located along the Mediterranean Coast. All these coastal lands of Phoenecia were the land of the palms where the Philistines lived, the legendary enemies of Israel, which is today named, Beirut, Lebanon, and Phoenicia was abundantly covered with palm trees. So the land of the palm trees was also the land, where in addition the to the productive crops of dates, grape vineyards grew there, and groves of fig trees, olive trees and pomegranate trees thrived. The Greeks were reported to have carved their magnificent fluted columns of marble to memorialize the shape of the trunk of a palm tree. Deuteronomy 34.3: There is the Negeb (desert) and the Jordan Valley; and Jericho, the city of palm trees; and Zoar, the Lord told him. Exodus 15.27 And they come to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there beside the spring. Tamar was the Hebrew name given to palm trees in Genesis and was often used to describe a beautiful woman. Gen 38.6 Judah arranged for him to marry a girl named Tamar. (Palm Tree.) 2 Samuel 13.1 King Davids son, Absalom, had a beautiful sister named Tamar. 2 Samuel 14.27 He, (Absalom), had three sons and one daughter, Tamar, who was a very beautiful girl. Palm trees produced long stout leaves that were used to build temporary tents and shelters at Jewish festivals. Leviticus 23.40, Take boughs of fruit trees laden with fruit, and palm fronds, and the boughs of leafy trees------such as willows that grow by the brooks....and (build shelters with them.). Ezekiel 41.18 the walls were decorated with carvings of cherubim, each with two faces and of palm trees alternating with cherubim. Ezekiel 41.20 One face,....that of a man....looked toward the palm tree on one side, and the other face...that of a young lion....looked toward the palm tree on the other side: and so it was, all around the inner wall of the Temple. Ezekiel 41 25-26 The doors leading into the nave were decorated with cherubim and palm trees, just as on the walls...There were recessed windows and carved palm trees on both sides of the entry hall, the hallways beside the Temple, and on the canopy at the entrance. 1 Kings 6.29 Figures of angels, palm trees, and open flowers were carved on all the walls of both rooms of the Temple and the floor of both rooms was overlaid with gold. The New Testament Scriptures note the spreading of Christianity throughout the lands bordering Israel. These lands were known for their palm trees. Acts 11.19 believers who fled from Jerusalem during the persecution after Stephen's death traveled as far as Phoenicia, land of palms. Acts 15.3 the delegates went on to Jerusalem, stopping along the way in the cities of Phoenicia, the land of the palms. John 12. 12-13 The next day, the news that Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem swept through the city, and a huge crown of Passover visitors took palm branches and went down the road to meet him shouting, 'The Savior! God Bless the King of Israel! Hail to God's Ambassador!' Weed Control Facts - Winning the Battle of the Weeds

By Michael McGroarty Keeping your landscape plantings, flower beds, and nursery crops free of weeds is a battle, but if you approach it with a strategic plan, you will prevail. In order to develop a plan, you first must understand how weeds work, and what kind of weeds you are dealing with. Basically weeds grow either from seed, or they reproduce from their roots. As the roots grow outward from the parent plant, new plants sprout up from the lateral roots, creating more parent plants and the process continues and the weeds thrive. Weeds that tend to reproduce from the root are usually more difficult to control. Weed control facts? Weeds are plants, and they function just like the desirable plants in your yard. They need water, sunlight, and nutrition to survive. Of these three key survival needs, the easiest one for a gardener to eliminate is sunlight. Through proper mulching you can eliminate the sunlight. But first, lets look at the steps you should go through before you mulch, then well discuss the best mulching techniques to use. In order for your weed control efforts to be truly effective, you should do everything in your power to make your gardens as weed free as possible before you plant or mulch. There are a couple of ways you can go about this, either organically or with chemicals. I dont like using chemicals, but I do use them for weed control, and I use them for pest control when necessary. Ill discuss organic control first. The first thing you should do is remove all unwanted vegetation from your planting area. Using a hoe, spade or other digging device, undercut the roots and remove the undesirable plants, roots and all. Then you should work the soil by rototilling or turning the soil by hand. Once worked, let the soil sit for four days or so, and work it again. Keep doing this over and over as long as time permits. This process serves two purposes. It brings the roots that were left in the soil close to the surface so they can be dried by the sun, which will make them non-viable, and it disturbs the weed seeds that have started to germinate, which makes them non-viable as well. The longer you continue this process the more weeds you are eliminating from your garden. Weed control facts? Depending on the time of the year, there are a few billion weed seeds drifting through the air at any given time, so to think that you can eventually rid a garden of weed seed is false thinking, but at least this process is effective for the remaining roots, which are the most difficult to control. With that process complete, go ahead and plant your garden. When youre done planting you can either mulch the bed, or keep turning the soil on a weekly basis to keep it free of weeds. Most people opt to mulch. Not only does mulch help to control the weeds, but if you select a natural mulch it also adds organic matter to the soil which makes for better gardening results down the road. Before mulching you can spread newspaper (7-9 layers thick) over the soil and place the mulch over top of that. The newspaper will block the sunlight from reaching the surface of the soil and help to keep weed growth to a minimum. The newspaper will eventually decompose, and not permanently alter the make up of your garden. Paper grocery bags also work well, so the next time you hear, Paper or Plastic?, youll know how to answer. What about black plastic, or the weed barrier fabric sold at garden centers? I dont like either and Ill tell you why. For one, neither one of them ever go away, and the make up of your garden is forever altered until you physically remove them, which is a real pain in the butt. Weed control facts? Plastic is no good for the soil because soil needs to breath. Plastic blocks the transfer of water and oxygen, and eventually your soil will suffer, as will your garden. Its all right to use plastic in a vegetable garden as long as you remove it at the end of the season and give the soil a chance to breath. Weed barrier fabrics allow the soil to breath, but what happens is that when you mulch over top of the fabric, which you should because the fabric is ugly, the mulch decomposes and becomes topsoil. Weeds love topsoil, and they will grow like crazy in it. Only problem is, they are growing on top of the fabric, and you are stuck with a ton of problems, like a weedy garden, and a major job of trying to remove the fabric that is now firmly anchored in place because the weeds have rooted through it. Weed fabric is also porous enough that if an area becomes exposed to the sunlight, enough light will peek through and weeds below the fabric will grow, pushing their way through the fabric. I dont like the stuff. Ive removed miles of it from landscapes for other people because it did not work as they had expected. Weed control facts? Controlling weeds with chemicals is fairly easy, and very effective if done properly. I know that many people dont approve of chemical weed controls, but millions of people use them, so I might as well tell you how to get the most effect using them. There are two types of chemical weed controls, post-emergent, and pre-emergent. In a nutshell, a post-emergent herbicide kills weeds that are actively growing. A pre-emergent prevents weed seeds from germinating. Of the post- emergent herbicides there are both selective and non-selective herbicides. A selective herbicide is like the herbicides that are in weed-and-feed type lawn fertilizers. The herbicide will kill broad leaf weeds in your lawn, but it doesnt harm the grass. One of the most popular non-selective herbicides is Round-up, it pretty much kills any plant it touches. Rule number one. Read the labels and follow the safety precautions!!! Round-up is very effective if used properly, but first you must understand how it works. Round-up must be sprayed on the foliage of the plant, where it is absorbed, then translocated to the root system where it then kills the plant. It takes about 72 hours for the translocation process to completely take place, so you dont want to disturb the plant at all for at least 72 hours after it has been sprayed. After 72 hours you can dig, chop, rototill, and pretty much do as you please because the herbicide has been translocated throughout the plant. The manufacture claims that Round-up does not have any residual effect, which means that you can safely plant in an area where Round-up has been used. However, I would not use it in a vegetable garden without researching further. No residual effect also means that Round-up has no effect whatsoever on weed seeds, so there is absolutely no benefit to spraying the soil. Only spray the foliage of the weeds you want to kill. Be careful of over spray drifting to your desirable plants. To prevent spray drift I adjust the nozzle of my sprayer so that the spray droplets are larger and heavier, and less likely to be carried by the wind. I also keep the pressure in the tank lower by only pumping the tank a minimum number of strokes. Just enough to deliver the spray. Buy a sprayer that you can use as a dedicated sprayer for Round-up only. Never use a sprayer that you have used for herbicides for any other purpose. Once you have sprayed the weeds, waited 72 hours and then removed them, you can go ahead and plant. Mulching is recommended as described above. To keep weed seeds from germinating you can apply a pre-emergent herbicide. Depending on the brand, some of them are applied over top of the mulch, and some are applied to the soil before the mulch is applied. A pre-emergent herbicide creates a vapor barrier at the soil level that stops weed seed germination, and can be very effective at keeping your gardens weed free. They usually only last about 5 or 6 months and need to be re-applied. Visit a full service garden center and seek the advice of a qualified professional to select the pre-emergent herbicide that will best meet your needs. Never use a pre-emergent herbicide in your vegetable garden, and be careful around areas where you intend to sow grass seed. If you spill a little in an area where you intend to plant grass, the grass will not grow. They really do work. Thats what I know about weed control. Read this article several times. By Glen D. Williams Weight Loss seems almost impossibly complicated for us normal people. We struggle with this program and that, never understanding what's going on and being made to feel guilty if we don't look like a TV celebrity. It's really quite simple...we gain when we take in more calories than we use up...we lose when we take in less. The trick is in knowing how much we should weigh, the number of calories we need and how to balance our diet to get those calories in a healthy way. Fortunately, BMI and BMR can help us know what we need to get to the right weight. BMI-Body Mass Index: The BMI can give us an approximation of what we should weigh, based, primarily on our height. All you need to do is plug your height and weight into an online Calculator (see BMI Calculator link below) to find out if you're underweight, normal, overweight or obese. Then work the weight numbers backwards to find out what "normal" is for your height. Now, I strongly believe the person who invented this was anorexic, so, don't be surprised at how light "normal" is. I said it was an approximation! There are wide variations in healthy weight among humans of the same height, like sex and frame size. Another common variation is, as we get older, we can afford to be a little more, shall we say, fluffy. The point is, you now have a way to figure out how much you should weigh based on something more objective than the TV. BMR-Basal Metabolic Rate: Your BMR is basically, the number of calories your body needs to maintain its current weight. Like the BMI, it's an approximation. If you're an athlete, for instance, you'll need many more calories...couch potatoes need less, but then, couch potatoes don't read this far into a health article. To get your BMR, simply enter your sex, age and weight into a Calculator (see BMR Calorie Burning Calculator below). The number you get out is the number of calories you need to maintain your current weight. Using The BMI And BMR For Weight Loss: Now, here's where BMI and BMR can be powerful weight loss tools. The BMI Calculator page instructs you how to adjust the BMI for the two most common variations...sex and frame size. Once you've taken the BMI normal weight and adjusted it for sex and frame size, you have your "goal" weight. Instead of your current weight, enter this "goal" along with your sex and age into the BMR Calorie Burning Calculator. The new number of calories are the daily amount you need to slowly lose weight down to your goal and maintain it (optimum calories). Of course, check all of this with your doctor before making any changes because certain medical conditions require special consideration. Still, with BMR and BMI, it's pretty easy to know where the goal line is...the final step is how to get to the goal line. Fat, Protein, Carbs, Fiber, Water: Once you know your optimum calories, it's simply a matter of balancing your daily food intake to add up to that total.
